David Tuffley
David Tuffley is a Senior Lecturer in Applied Ethics and Cybersecurity in the School of Information and Communication Technology, Griffith University, AUSTRALIA. His core competencies include Science/Technology communication, leadership development, learning system development, academic research into future facing technology, ethics in IT, cybersecurity, the social impact of technology.
A prolific contributor to print, radio and television, David is a high-profile Griffith academic. His articles have been published in the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and many others, including foreign language pubs (German and Japanese).
Before academia David was a Technical Writer in Australia and the United Kingdom working for public and private sector clients. Among several other high-profile events, David was a guest panellist in the 2017 World Science Festival, and guest speaker at the 2019 Festival (see Ockham's Razor).
David spends a month each year since 2016 at Humboldt University in Berlin, the high technology capital of eastern Europe, and San Jose/San Francisco where he studies the nature of innovation culture.
David's formal qualifications include PhD (Software Engineering), M Phil (Information Systems), Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (Griffith University), Bachelor of Arts (Psychology, English Literature, Anthropology) (Queensland).
Outside of academia, David writes commercially on a broad range of topics; from Comparative Religion, Anthropology, Psychology, Ancient and Modern History, Linguistics, Rhetoric, Philosophy, Architectural History, Environments and Ecosystems.
With over 60 titles in print and eBook and millions of verified downloads, David is an author of international significance. Beyond the English-speaking world, his work has been translated into Chinese, German and Japanese.
David’s authoring career spans four areas Technical Publications, Academic and Commercial Publications as well as mainstream media articles.
Technical Publications
David has prepared and published the full suite of training guides, user manuals and technical reference guides for both domestic and international clients. He is experienced as both a technical writer and project manager with full oversight and responsibility through all phases of publication development for successful delivery of innovative and highly effective solutions.
Academic
David has designed, developed and implemented multiple learning systems (course clusters) in various UG/PG programs offered by the School of ICT at Griffith University. The requirement is for cutting edge, up-to-date course offerings. He consistently receives good to excellent ratings from students.
Commercial Publications
David is the founder and director of Altiora Publications a specialist publisher of quality scientific and philosophical books. Established in 1994, Altiora is one of the oldest eBook sellers on the Web. Its Software Engineering project management titles have been selling continuous since 1994. Altiora currently has over 60 titles in print and eBook.
He also designs, develops and presents training for industry on Leadership and software quality management. He was an SEI Authorised Introduction to CMMI Instructor for 5 years.
Media Articles
Dr Tuffley has over 50 mainstream media articles published in The Conversation, and republished (Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Fairfax press, Murdoch press and elsewhere). Over 1.5 million reads recorded. These articles have proceeded to generate media interviews on radio and TV, as well as invited talks.
The theme of David’s articles is the social impact of technology, consideration of how the coming technology will change the way people live.
